Are you wondering how to get back the security deposit on your lease in LA?
It happens often enough. You put down a security deposit for your rental, fully expecting to get it back if you leave the place as you have found it, and that doesn’t happen all the time.
Landlords have 21 days to return the security deposit to the tenant in full, or mail the tenant a letter explaining why they are keeping all or part of the deposit. An itemized list of each deduction, as well as receipts for work performed and any remaining deposit must also be sent to the tenant.
If your landlord has not provided the tenant with a full refund of your deposit, or a statement of deductions by the end of the 21-day period, the landlord loses the right to keep any of the security deposit and must return it to you in full.
