Our readers and customers know that The Document People stores provide a better service than any online sites – including the one we like to call LegalDoom (see our previous blogs).
Today we would like to start a series of blogs where we prove that more often than not, The Document People is also even more affordable alternative to LegalZoom . The theme of this series should be “Someone has to pay for all those commercials…”.
Let’s start the series with incorporating services. Every corporation or LLC, in California or in any other State, needs an agent for service of process. An agent can be a person or another entity registered with the Secretary of State. In case there is a lawsuit against the company, the summons are served on the agent. It doesn’t mean that the agent is responsible or liable, only that it’s the agent’s responsibility to forward the papers to the company sued.
We encourage our customers to be their own agents for service of process. It’s convenient and free. Occasionally – in cases where the customer lives out of State, or if the customer does not want his or her name to appear on the website of the Secretary of State – we offer that service for $49 per year.
LegalZoom offers the same service for $159 per year! So The Document People is $110 less expensive than LegalZoom !
Also, note on the picture taken from the LegalZoom’s website the “convenience” of automatic re-billing every year, and the fact that LegalZoom is the default option (the only other option is “I’ll name the register agent”, which is a little misleading in our minds, because it implies something of a decision process; what about “I’ll be my own agent”?).
So, the moral of the story is: someone has to pay for all those commercials! By now you must be convinced that The Document People is a less expensive alternative to Legal Zoom.
